http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_get鈥?/a>How do I kill bumble bees?
Wait till night time, when most (if not all) the bees are in the hive/nest.

Cover the hole with a scoop of dirt. Cover the dirt with a garbage can cover. put a weight, such as a brick on the cover (to hold it down). If the bees dig through dirt, the cover will do the trick. keep the hole covered for about a week.

Bumble bees don't produce honey like honey bees do. They do pollinate plants though.
You will only be at risk if you disturb the nest, they are pretty docile and not likely to attack your mom. Make a little fence round the nest and leave it alone. Bumble bees are becoming scarce, we need to protect them.
gasoline and a match, turn them into fireflies lol

Anybody ever heard of Chocolate covered Bumble Bees?

I vaguely remember hearing something about them, but there is none for sale in our stores.Anybody ever heard of Chocolate covered Bumble Bees?
When I was young, my Dad was a Captain on a tanker that shipped to the east coast and he would bring me chocolate covered bees. I really liked them, however now that I am grown, I don't really think that I would go out of my way to find them. It was a real novelty back then.Anybody ever heard of Chocolate covered Bumble Bees?
yeah yeah we have PLENTY in america go to malleys chocolate they have them there and there like a billion malleys chocolates here!
When my Uncle was a kid, he had a big box of chocolate cover ants, bees, grasshoppers, etc. He had a lot of fun handing them out to the kids on the bus. he he. I'd try online or possibly a health food store.

Anywhere i can get a free copy of flight of the bumble bee for marimba?

You can use the original arrangement for violin. It's in C so just read it the way you would any other music. For even more ease in reading look for it in lead sheet format.

Good luck with that. I'm impressed with anyone who can play Flight of the Bumblebee. That song's insane (It's awesome, but still insane!).

I'm going to be a bumble bee for Halloween too! Everyone loves my outfit, and I don't have a stripped top, heres what i'm wearing..... i bought these wings, stinger, and antenna in a bag from clairs. They're adorable. I bought a plain long sleeved tight fitting black shirt, and some decorativeve big beaded yellow beads from wet seal. Then i'm wearing a black and yellow plaid skirt, and some bright yellow and black eye shadow... then these black and yellow stripped stockings. you don't need a stripped shirt....just get a black one and add some cute yellow beads.Anybody know where i can get a yellow and black striped tee/vest top for a bumble bee costume?
Having worked at Sears in the Children's department (and I'm assuming that this is a child's costume, right?) you might try their website at Sears.com and search for a brand called TKS, as they usually have polo shirts that come in stripes and are priced usually around $8(USD) and if you are looking for an adult shirt, you might try a soccer store that sells striped polos (although I don't know what kind of prices you might find or what brands).

I don't know if there are discount retail stores in the UK like Target or WalMart, but those, too, have websites!

    Good Luck and Happy Halloween!
I'd check a sporting goods store...they might have a referee vest or something.

So i've got my rats cage but what do i do about the wire they have to stand on can't it cause bumble foot?

I'm happy with the cage i have it's 3 levels and i have covered the bottom one with newspaper and some recycled paper cat litter, but what about the upper 2 sections? Doesn't the wire irritate their feet?

I'm pretty sure if i just lay newspaper down it'll get thrown around by the rats. Or will the upper 2 levels make any difference to their feet?So i've got my rats cage but what do i do about the wire they have to stand on can't it cause bumble foot?
It sounds like you have a wonderful cage! I've actually had to deal with bumble foot myself, and it's not pretty. It's not something that can really be cured either - even with the most rigorous antibiotic course. So it's best to be avoided, and I'm glad you're knowledgeable of it.

On the top levels - you can try using towels (cut them accordingly) or ripped up pieces of blankets. I tried cardboard - and that stuff can stink very quickly. With the towels, you'll want to wash them about 1 to 2 times a week so you'll maintain a clean living environment. Clean it with a detergent that's safe for babies.

You can also use plastic, as someone else suggested, but rats do like to chew and it's not the healthiest thing to ingest - but it's very easy to clean.

Good luck!So i've got my rats cage but what do i do about the wire they have to stand on can't it cause bumble foot?
Get some old fabric or old towels from a thrift store, or buy new fleece if you like. Cut the fabric to twice the size of the cage levels. Fold the fabric around the level and hold it onto the level with some binder clips. If you get extra you can take off the dirty level covers every few days and replace with clean ones while you wash the dirty ones.
When I had wire floors I used vinyl tile to cover the shelves. It is fairly cheap(I used to pay about 60 cents for a 12';x12'; square). I would cut it to the size and shape of the shelve and since it was sticky it would adhere itself. I did have to change the tile every few months(they chewed it), but it wasn't that big of a hassle.
They will make a difference. You could try cutting flat pieces of plastic and connecting it to the levels with clips. You really shouldn't use cardboard or wood, or anything that will absorb stink and pee, because you'll have to change it out often.
Yes i am pretty sure it will hurt their feet. It will make the bottom of their feet become red and it will ache. I think the best idea would to cover it with cardboard. Thats what I would do.

    Hope that helps

Would a bumble bee the size of a man be able to fly?

Assuming a 6' tall man weighs 190 lbs, how much would a 6' tall bumble bee weigh?Would a bumble bee the size of a man be able to fly?
From an aeronautics point of view, bumblebees the size of bumblebees aren't supposed to fly, they're too heavy for their wing area. It's a mystery.Would a bumble bee the size of a man be able to fly?
No, the lifting surfaces necessary increase exponentially as weight increases, therefore the wings would need to be much bigger in proportion to the body. When the wings are that big, there is no way they could beat as fast.
I'm pretty sure that an insect's exoskeloton wouldn't function like they do at that scale. It would be pretty cool.
I am sure if they grew that big, they

would function as usaul - why not?

Look at the large birds of the world

they manage to fly, regardless of thier

size and weight - if it is meant to fly

it will fly. ( Hey, how about Superman )
the limitation would be the exoskeleton

it could not get to be more than a few inches long, I think

there were large dragonflies years ago though
    i don't think so
As long as IT reddems ITS miles by Dec 31, probably yes.
Not if the proportions were kept the same. The wing area would increase about as the square of the increase in size. The weight would increase about as the cube of the increase in size.

I guess I would be glad it couldn't fly.
Well, science isn't my strong point. However, if people can get those enormous and incredibly heavy airplanes off the ground, then I think it's safe to say that a man-sized bee could probably go airborne!

If he were John Belushi in a killer bee outfit, you could bet your bottom dollar on flight!

(The weight of a six-foot tall bumble bee would depend on its body ';type';; is it a beefy bee, for example!?)

If you know anything better than water or bug spray please tell me!!!!!!!!!Whats the best thing to kill a bumble bee and/or a hornet? Is water a good thing to use or is bug spray better
Hornets are best addressed by using a specific wasp spray after dark, but any insecticide will work. Just make sure the sun is down and the sky is dark, or you may find yourself on the receiving end of a great deal of hornet attention.

What happens IF you breed a Wasp and a Bumble Bee?

What would it be called? What happens IF you breed a Wasp and a Bumble Bee?
yea, you know they CAN'T right?

But you just want to know what it would be called IF?

hmm, usually hybrids have portmanteau designations, probably because it's then illustrative of the combo they derive from. For example the Polar Bear + Grizzly Bear = Pizzle Bear

    Lion + Tiger = Liger....

I would therefore propose it be called a Wumble Basp =PWhat happens IF you breed a Wasp and a Bumble Bee?
I'm not sure that would be possible, but if it were, then I guess they would be called Bumble Wasps. Heres a link with a picture of a supposed hybrid: http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=鈥?/a> but they may be mistaken.
It's a rather silly question. Do you know that both of those animals have the same number of chromosomes? Do you know anything about genetics? But a more important question is why would they interbreed?

I have an insect that burrows in the ground. It looks like a bumble bee and has spider like legs. What is it?

It digs in the ground. Its big, and makes ant like mounds from it digging? They dont bother me, but they are tearing up my yard. What is it and how do I get rid of them?I have an insect that burrows in the ground. It looks like a bumble bee and has spider like legs. What is it?
That is either a Carpenter Bee or a Cicada (sp?.) If it looks exactly to a T like a Bumble Bee it's a Carpenter Bee, and they are annoying and are basically like a huge termite without the devotion to eat like termites do. Anotherwords they bore in wood, but don't keep at it all the time. Over time these punks can destroy a patio, barn, etc, but not usually houses. If it looks like a cross between a Bumble Bee and a Horsefly it's a Cicada, these guys eat plants and are equally annoying but more destructive. Either way, you have two options if you want to get rid of them.

    1) ';Au Natural'; Get on of those hand air-pressure pump sprayers and fill it with 3/4th warm water 1/4th distilled vinegar, add a 1/4th teaspoon of non-scented dish soap, mix well, and spray the area. You'll have to do it everyother day for awhile, but after that it should be just weekly and after rain.

    2) ';The Easiest'; Buy the backyard pest control spray solution that comes in a hose-hook-up spray bottle, and follow the directions.

The first will not harm any plants or animals, but it will ward off Humming Birds, and it drives bith ground insects out.

The second will both kill and ward off both ground insects, and it can cause irritation to kids and animals.

Good luck.I have an insect that burrows in the ground. It looks like a bumble bee and has spider like legs. What is it?
I have seen this so called spider and I have no Idea what it is but its eyelids are yellow and it is fuzzy!!! Report Abuse

    sounds like a ground wasp
I have to agree with hoosierdaddy1, except I wouldn't go the chemical route, as I try always for orgaic soutions. This vinegar treatment works with most pests.

ps: a picture of the insect would also be helpful here to see exactly what you have.
    yeap wasp or chipper possibly.

Either way they both bite. Raid makes a product that you stick in the ground and kills the bugs in the holes. I forget whats its called but I guess it works wonders. It kills the holes as well keeping the pests inside.

Wasn't something happening with them being killed off by some kind of disease or another insect ? How to kill a bumble bee?

Can i use a can of ';brake cleaner'; that i found in the garage to kill a bee that is flying around the house? the ceiling is 18 ft tall and i can't swat it?How to kill a bumble bee?
I've never tried brake cleaner, but I have used hair spray to kill bees and it works great. Spray the bee with hairspray and its wings will stick together, making it unable to fly. After only a minute or so, the bee will stop flying around and you will then be able to sway it and kill it. Spraying brake cleaner in your house does not sound too healthy! Non-aerosol hairspray is environmentally friendly. How to kill a bumble bee?
use nail polish remover - the smell of it kills them, so if you can get a rag close to the bee, you can douse the rag in nail polish remover, then watch the bee keel over and die.

or if you can catch it in a jar or container, you can just put a cotton ball of nail polish remover in there with him to kill him.
the brake cleaner alone won't kill it

unless you light it on fire
if the roof is really 18 ft high i don't think spraying something like that all over the house is a good idea. you'll probably miss.
you might kill yourself in the process.
u dont need to killit just open a window or somethin and let it go
Try using a vacuum cleaner with the wands attached to it. It works with all kinds of insects and such.
i dont recommend it, i would wait til it lands on it then squish it lol :)
try a can of raid. it has a long range
Bees will die within three hours if they are trappped inside a house or car or something. So, you could just wait....

    Black.

All yellow with big black eyes. It goes well with the stripes.

  • Is bumble-puppy an actual game/sport played on the tennis court and does it have its own official rules?

While reading E.M. Forster's 'A Room with a View', the characters began playing this describing it as ';an ancient and most honorable game, which consists in striking tennis-balls high into the air, so that they fall over the net and immoderately bounce.'; Was this a made up game or is it an actual variation of tennis with its own set of rules. I like various alternatives to traditional sports and games and was curious if anyone had any insights. Is bumble-puppy an actual game/sport played on the tennis court and does it have its own official rules?
I believe Forster's version to be fictional, whimsically describing it as 'ancient and most honorable game' when it in fact is't just a random hitting of balls high in the air.

I found a link that discusses this, along with the origins of the name, and it's alternate appearence in literature, Aldous Huxley's Brave New World:

im looking for people who have accutally USED these products to tell me what they think, which is better and why. if you plan on telling me im stupid for spending a ton on hair care products or that it doesnt matter, please dont. just answer my question that i have posted.Frederic Fekkai OR Bumble and Bumble. which is the better brand of hair care product?
Bumble and Bumble is great and I think its less expensive than Federic Fekkai. My sister works at a salon and they represent and sell BB products. The owner talked to me about BB and said they like to sell their products because they are much better and have more hair products than anything else. I use BB and they have really great products they make my hair smell delicious and look healthy and pretty and give my hair nice texture. I love a lot of their products because I cant believe all the things they can do to my hair and all the things I can do with my hair using their products!

Im so happy I found BB :)

    Hope I helped!

What's the difference between a Wasp and a Bumble Bee?

I've never really fully understood this and would be very grateful for your help on this matter.

Thank you!!What's the difference between a Wasp and a Bumble Bee?
Wasp are wasps and have stings which can be pulled out again. Male and queen wasps are larger than the workers but look very similar. Their bodies are smooth

Bumble bees are male bees which are much fatter than the workers and much smaller than the queen. Their bodies are hairy. They have stings which are serrated and stick in the wound and cannot be withdrawn. The poison sac remains attacked to the sting and continues to inject poison after it has been torn out of the bee's body.

For more details look in Google.

RoySWhat's the difference between a Wasp and a Bumble Bee?
a bubble bee can only sting u once and then it will die but wasps can sting more than once without dying xx
Bumble Bees are very good at mathematics whereas wasps just fly about all day flashing their credit cards.
simply they are both insects but not closely related

wasps are more closely related to ants
This is a very good article about bees, wasps, etc. There is a big difference, other than the shape and size of the bee.

    http://www.greensmiths.com/bees.htm
Wasps have smooth stingers, so they can sting over and over again. Bees have little barbs so when they sting, the stinger is caught in the skn of the victim, wasps are also larger and look smoother than the bumblebee. Also, wasps are more aggresive then bumblebees. Hope this helped.

And bumblebees collect pollen while wasps collect wood pieces to build their hives.
    Bees collect pollen.
bees are bigger and if they sting you they die

wasps can sting you as many times as it want and dont die.

bees collect pollen and wasps dont
    bees collect pollen for honey
Wasps are nasty beggars who will sting you as soon as look at you, and they eat other insects as well and apart from the odd unwitting act of pollination, they are of no real use to the human race.

Bumble bees are much bigger and furrier and do a lot of pollination for us whilst they are collecting food for themselves, and honey bees are much less furry and obviously produce quantities of honey suitable for human consumption. Bees won't normally sting you unless you annoy them first ! ! !
    nothing they both sting you
bumble bees and wasps are very similar, the only reason you see them is because they are doing some sort of work for their hive, but they are completely different creatures. their hives are different and locations are. another big difference is that bumble bees are going more for flowers it seems rather than humans, but wasps tend to sting a lot harder and more. that's all i can give you. hope it answers your question enough.
bees he got jobs and wasps are just bums

How come a bumble bee's wings are so small in relation to its striped body?

again, asked by a 5 year old.How come a bumble bee's wings are so small in relation to its striped body?
Technically, a bumble bee should not be able to fly.

This is because their wings are underdeveloped for it's body. The reason they can fly is because of the speed they flutter them. How come a bumble bee's wings are so small in relation to its striped body?

In my opinion, fitting everything that you will need into your Transformer Car is going to be a major engineering feat.

I am a Gadget Freak, not an engineer, I believe that I could do what you propose. Just some thoughts:

    (1) The car, when modified, would probably not be a Transformer any more, but I could live with that.

    (2) I would start with simple modifications on something else, until I was confident with working with the electronics, servo motors, etc.

    (3) Possibly buy a kit, assemble it, play around with it and then attempt the Transformer Car modification.

    (4) Never give up, and never let someone tell you that what you want to do can not be done.

Some of the nicest pleasures I have had are the results of applying my Gadget Freak Gene to a project.

Huge bumble bee - light brown fur and no obvious stripes?

I live in southern california and yesterday was surprised to see a large bumble bee that appeared to be covered with light brown fur and had no stripes. I read about teddy bear bees from Australia but don't know if they're supposed to be in California. One site I looked at said that you should report them as they can be problematic. There are bumble bees as well as others on this sheet of photos. Click on the photo and you get an enlargement and info on the bee. I have annual visits at my house in Northern California of carpenter bees that have a metallic green color body with black hairs. They build nests in a shed made of cedar. They also like redwood. There are many variations in color and amount of hair. But if it build its nest by drilling into wood its a carpenter bee. Also they are the tamest of the bees. They are constantly hoovering around the nest sites where I must pass and they never bother me.Huge bumble bee - light brown fur and no obvious stripes?

What kind of bees look like honey bee size black bumble bees?

There is a little black bee pollinating our garden and neither my mom nor I know what it's called. It's about the same size as a honey bee, but looks a lot like a black bumble bee. I tried looking up bee on wikipedia, but one thing led to another and I had no clue what it was talking about.

Also, what bee species are native to the US?What kind of bees look like honey bee size black bumble bees?
Find the one that looks like your bee and click on the picture. They will provide you a name that you can look up. There are a number of different families of bees. Carpenter are usually larger than honey bees. Bumble bees are about honey bee size but more robust. Identifying the species may require studying the veins in the wings and other details of the bees anatomy. Take your pick.

Bumble Bees!!! Any suggestions on how to rid my porch of them?

I had my side porch screened in - allergic to bees - but still getting bumble bees!! They aren't boring thru the wood and there ain't no other way to get in but the pesky buggers are still getting in.

get a lot of flowers and plant them in ur neighbors yard so they have 2 deal with itBumble Bees!!! Any suggestions on how to rid my porch of them?
Get a bee trap and fill it with sugar water. Go to your local Lowes and look in the Lawn %26amp; Garden Department for the big green Scott's book located in that department.Purchase an outdoor fogger and do your porch every other day.Be careful with insecticides and follow the safety precautions.
If the vicinity of a bumble bee nest can be avoided, then leaving them alone and waiting for them to die in the fall would be the preferred ';management'; option. Trapping bumble bees is not practical and exclusion techniques may not solve the problem. When controlling bumble bees is necessary, using insecticides to poison bee colonies is the control method of choice. Bumble bees, honey bees and yellowjackets are all controlled the same way. After determining the nest location and nest entrance during the day, wait until night to treat if possible. Wear long-sleeved shirt and trousers and tie sleeves and pants legs shut or pull your socks out over your pant cuffs. Apply insecticide through the entrance hole. Dust formulations of insecticides are preferred (e.g., Sevin dust). Use a duster or ';fling'; insecticide into the hole off an old plastic spoon. Sprays and ready-to-use ';wasp and hornet'; aerosol sprays can also be used, but often with less satisfactory results. Do not plug the entrance hole until all activity has stopped. Be prepared to repeat the treatment if necessary. Finally, seal shut, caulk and paint all openings in the vicinity of the old entrance.

What pictures and information on the Hawaiian bumble bee is available?

Hawaiian bumble bees are not native to the islands. There are many different species worldwide and Hawaii probably has a combination of imported bees. The interesting thing about this population of bees is that they are free from Varroa mite parasites that plague the continental US and, so, available for export as pollinators.

smoke at night time. wasps also. I rolled up newspaper and burned one at a time.
If you want to do it yourself get dry ice or other very cold substance (CO fire extinguishers work too) and drop it around/in the beenest after smoking the bees for a good time. Make sure to wear protective clothing. Bees are very sensitive to cold and you should be able to sweep out the nest after you've frozen them for a few minutes. Pouring a lot of gas on a bees nest underground will kill the nest, but won't do it immediately so you're likely to get some angry bees for a few minutes to begin with. You have to follow up the gas with something else to actually destory the nest of it will start 'waking back up' within a few hours.

With everything going on in the world at present I must confess I haven't had many sleepless nights worrying about blOOdy bees!!Is no one concerned about the endangerment of our bumble bees and honey bees.?
YES! Honeybees are essential to our survival. They pollinate fruits and vegetable crops and keep plant reproducing.

    Long Live honeybees!
I read it was mobile 'phone masts. Whatever it is it's a disaster .. no more bees bumbling around the flowers?
I saw one news article that said cell phone use might be to blame. The bees get confused by the signals and get lost, can't return to their hive. I don't know what the scientific basis is, since anything can be reported as news here in the U.S...
I dont think the government in the UK is doing anything about this. all that is being done is by the Beekeepers themselves, if you want to help, make sure you plant plenty of flowers so they can collect their pollen.
In Germany we have a natural garden society, and they have tips on how to encourage ground nesting bees and bumble bees to nest in your garden. These are all solitary insects, they do not build a hive and live in a colony like other honey bees. It is something each one of us can do, if we have a small patch of ground.

Could it have anything to do with climate change also?
I hope wasps disappear. I hate them buzzing around at pub gardens, or picnics, etc. they are so annoying
I've read several articles on this. It seems that we lost half of our honeybees twice in the past 30 years and their population came back. Scientists don't know what is causing their decline this time, so I'm not sure what we could be expected to do!
I haven't got a big enough garden or enough cash to start my own honey making business, but I'd love to. I live on the out skirts of the city near the countryside, and I've planted loads of fruit trees, and different flowers and have attracted loads of bubble/honey bees, and this has attracted loads of other stuff, like birds, squirrels %26amp; cats. So as you may imagine, its a pretty lively garden. Its like having a real life viva pin谩ta garden!!! Try to cut out wifi signals apparently this kills or repels bees, not sure which one, you'll have to look it up... ps for anyone who thinks that wifi will do the same to the pesty wasp.... sorry it only effects the bee.

They go home, get a shower (sing in it), go on the computer and play games, go to sleep, and drean about honey. OR they could get stepped on by people.
They go back to their nest and complain to the other bees that their sting is more than their bite.
they sting everyone during the day then get stamped on and killed... some fortunate few go back to the queen in the hives... oh my golly gosh have you not been to a bee farm
well, if they're from london, they surely go to stingfellows? :)
    They return to their hive.

I have bumble bees swarming my patio. They will not let us on it without being stung! How do you rid of them?

There are no nests present, but being tis the season of spring I'm assuming that's why they are out in swarms. These ones are huge and aggressive. I';m wondering if there is some sort of spray or something to put out there as they are holding the area hostage!I have bumble bees swarming my patio. They will not let us on it without being stung! Sounds like carpenter bees to me, which look like bumble bees, but they have a smooth rear end. They like to bore into wood to lay their eggs. Quite a pest. You should call a professional exterminator. That's the safest bet.I have bumble bees swarming my patio. They will not let us on it without being stung! How do you rid of them?
carpenter bees , not bumbles.... and the ones buzzing around don't have stingers , so they can't sting.... the females are the ones chewing holes in the house or wood railings and they can sting, but usually don't, since they're inside the nest hole most of the time....

they are good for pollenating the flowers so don't go poison happy....

mikel seems to be very confused about his bees,,, only the small ';honey'; bees make honey,, the large black ones that bore holes in the walls do not,, those holes are to lay their eggs!! plug the holes and if possible paint all the wooden parts around ';BLUE';,, this color seems to confuse these bees or give them a headache,, cause they will soon be gone from there...How do you get rid of bumble bees around your home or shed?
I have a friend who has many many be hives and sells honey. Big operation, he's been in the business a long while and he uses a paddle and swats them, those big bumble bees that bore 3/8'; holes in the wood on your house. Not very high tech or scientific but it gets the job done.

    I use spray myself.
I don't know of any humane way to get them to move out other than nailing them with a hose (from a distance) until they decide to move on. You may have to kill them with a spray from your local garden center.
My experience is with the Black Bumble Bee. I put steel wool into the Little openings they make in and around where they seem to be concentrating. I have done this and it worked well. I would suggest placing the steel wool in the evening hrs when the heat of the day is over and the bees are less active. Good luck.

How do I get rid of bumble bees in my balcony? Do they go away on their own by the time spring ends?

if you have one, try to find the hive (it should be near by) and use a power sparyer on it, then run back in the house! i know it seems dangerous but they'll go away after like and hour after you destroy the hive. How do I get rid of bumble bees in my balcony? Do they go away on their own by the time spring ends?
Hi, if you have a nest, call the City. They might be the Africanised ones. Those are the aggressive ones. I'd call the city even if you don't see a nest. It could be hidden inside the walls, or the ceiling. I wouldn't mess with them! Call the city.Bye Or Animal control. How do I get rid of bumble bees in my balcony? Do they go away on their own by the time spring ends?
I would call the city or county extension office. They might be a swarm and they have people who will come and get them for you. Most likely they are looking for food. Early in the spring they don't have much food because there aren't many flowers for them to get nectar for. An old pioneer remedy was to put a pie tin of sugar water in a out of they way corner of your yard they will go to that and leave the balcony alone. I've done that here and it really helped.

They sell duct tape in different colors--get some yellow duct tape and use a black garbage bag for the body and tape the stripes on. Viola!
STEP 1: Lay a yellow sweatshirt out flat and attach black tape in horizontal stripes running across the front. Place a stripe every 2 inches. Turn the sweatshirt over and repeat the process on the back. STEP 2: Put on black pants and black shoes. STEP 3: Put your sweatshirt on with the hood up. Tighten the hood so that it frames your face and all your hair is hidden. STEP 4: Place the antennae headband on your head over the hood. STEP 5: Draw yellow and black stripes on your face using face paint.

  • Why are all of our bumble bees enormous and unable to fly?

This summer, all the bumble bees we've seen around our yard have been unusually huge. And all of them have been having big problems flying. They look drunk. They'll get a tiny bit above the ground and then fall back down again. They'll try again and flip over. We've seen about ten like this and are beginning to wonder if there's something wrong with them. They're all coming from a a hole in our landlord's shed. Has anyone ever seen bees like this? Is it normal? Why are all of our bumble bees enormous and unable to fly?
    Your question is quite interesting.

We have lots of Bumblebees locally, especially this year, but I have never observed this behavior.

Bee flies also look a lot like Bumblebees. The Bee flies will hover higher in the air, whereas Bumblebees go flower to flower and stay close to the ground.

My best advice is to; collect one or more of the bees, then contact your state's conservation dept. In all 50 states, care is taken to observe, number and observe habits of destructive and useful insects.

Bumblebees are the major pollinators after honeybees.

They may suggest you contact a local beekeeper (Apiarist). The local beekeepers will be very knowledgeable with general information. Why are all of our bumble bees enormous and unable to fly?
I would check the shed. If they look drunk then chances are they probably are. ;)
This is normal because the bee's dont always like to fly. I've seen many bee's like this.
    they might be Carpenter Bees

Bumblebees make their nest in the ground.

Capenter bees make holes in wood so they might be in the shed.
Maybe they're inbred... (Lol, I have no idea.)
I would bet they were toward the end of thier life cycle. Beetles do the same when they are neer thier end. That is when you see more toads around getting thier fare share.

Who cares? Get the sheet music and learn to play it. It should only take a few months to get it down.
You should just get the music for it and learn it. A video won't teach you to play it. I'm sure you already know how it sounds. There really aren't tutorials for that. You just need to practice.

Why do some bumble bees sleep on plants at night and not return to the nest?

My daughter and I observed some bumble bees remaining on a plant after sunset and want to know why they did not return to the nest. Why do some bumble bees sleep on plants at night and not return to the nest?
It may be that the air had gotten too cool to allow the bee to fly. Bumblebees have small wings to allow them to crawl into narrow spaces. To fly, they have to beat their wings very rapidly. This requires a lot of energy and their wing muscles can't generate enough energy to fly if the air is cool. Late in the season, the colony generates male bees known as drones. They leave the hive and search for young queens to mate with. After mating, the males die. Perhaps some of the bees seen were males at the end of their lives. Workers will also leave the nest just before dying.

Have you ever been stung by a bumble bee?

I am still not sure if they sting. Has anyone here ever been stung, and is sure that it was a bumble bee that did it? How bad does it hurt, and can you compare the pain to the pain of other stings?

Also, do bumble bees have a queen?Have you ever been stung by a bumble bee?
Ouch, gosh, yes, let me tell you about it.

I had oil of jasmine on (never again!), was DRIVING and in slow traffic a bee came right in my window, landed on my chest (just below collarbone) and stung me. It felt like the dull hard thump of a hammer with a sharp pin prick in the middle.

The bee lost his guts for that, the sting throbbed %26amp; hurt bad.Have you ever been stung by a bumble bee?
Yes, I have been stung by a bumble bee once and was hospitalized. If you have an allergy to bee stings, bumblebees are the worst because the stinger comes off and keeps pumping poison into your system, unlike hornets who have to sting repeatedly. Yes, you know it's a bumblebee because the stinger will still be there. Bumblebees die after they lose their stinger, so they pretty much don't sting unless they perceive you are attacking the hive.

    Yes, bumblebees have a queen.
When I was stung by a bee I knew it because I had to pull the stinger out of my foot thought this is not always the case. The area will swell up very soon after you are stung. It hurts a lot but not enough to hysterically cry for most. The pain is like a shot, pretty quick after you take out the stinger. The throbbing of the area adds some pain too though. You can get sting cream, etc. at your local pharmacy or ask your doctor. Hope this helps.
yes, i have been stung a couple times, when I was younger. it doesn't really hurt, perse...but it does itch. and the more you scratch it, the more it stings, it looks like a mosquito bite but turns wherever you were stung red. its a little worse then getting a needle. but hurts less than getting stabbed with a thumbtack.

and uhmm, yes they have a queen.
I've been stung by bumble bees alot in my life.

once when i was in kindergarten or the 1st grade near my left eye.

once when i was in grade 5. it stung me right at the top of my head. (i hit the hive with a ball by accident)

once in grade 6. Me and some friends were chasing this BIG bumble bee. it was about half the size of my palm. yeah it was huge.

we were bored so we started chasing it and caught it in a bottle. we had to wait for my friend to find a bottle cap cuz we found the bottle on the ground so i held the top of the bottle with my hand so it wouldnt escape so the bee stung my hand and it hurt alot.

ive been stung some more times but i forgot when lol.
Um, I got stung by 2 bees and a black fly. It does hurt for a while like you got a couple needles stabbed in you. I think hornets hurt worse. I did get stung by a regular hornet once also. And there are queen bees. I've seen one. They are really big. Black fly's hurt bad but not a bad as others.
No, I have never been stung by a bumble bee, but they do have stingers. And they do have a queen too. It feels just like any other sting. A hard pinch. They say the honey bee sting hurts a little bit worse than a bumble bee, but not by much.

    I hope this helped.
yes they can sting you, and yes they have a queen. the sting feels like a wasp sting, and you shout remove the stinger asap. after a bee stings you, the bee will die.
No,nvr been stung by a bumblebee

but a really big ant once

landed on my face and gv me a

    It freakin hurts,that's for sure.

I'm not sure,bt i think they shuld hv a queen.
Nope never been stung by a bee :D whenever I see one i just run lol. Im afraid of bees Dx Even though my name means bee or something like that o.o and they do have a queen. She lays all the bees in the hive.
Yes .. they sting .. and it hurts like a wasp sting.

Stings are different to different people .. especially with allegic reactions.

I don't know if they have a queen or not .. but I would think that they do.
A bumble bee sting hurts trust me. I was stung when I was about 7. Compared to a wasp sting which I had later in life the bee sting was 5 times worse.
Yes it sucks so bad it gets swollin and really itchy if u were to compare to other stings it's pretty weak but it still huts like hell. And if there stinger gets stuck in u it hurts even more.
yes i have they rarely sting but they do! they need a reason to.

i was seven so of course it hurt reallly bad but.
i only had i bee sting when i was 3 on my face and i cried i think
feels like someone pinching you hard. the worse part of the bite is the venom that gets pushed into your body. makes the bite burning hot and itchy
it hurts but the best thing I know to alleviate the pain is wet tobacco or mud.
    Yes

    -and-

    Yes
no i have never been stung!

    and yes they have queens.

from my knowledge, it does hurt a bit.
Yep =) When I was little me and my friends would try to catch them because there were different colors!!
    Yes, they sting!
No I haven't been stung yet. (Knock on wood)

Yes, they do have a queen bee

My bumble bee cichlid has a couple of yellow white spots on the bottom of its fin, and my electric blue does 2

they are yellow dots on the bottom fins, Is it a boy or girl if it has the dots, are they eggs?My bumble bee cichlid has a couple of yellow white spots on the bottom of its fin, and my electric blue does 2
No Ryan, that is not ick. That is called egg spots. It's not a clear indicator if it's a male or female though. There are females that have egg spots too. Usually males have them and large numbers, but like I said, females can have them too. The best way to sex your cichlids accurately is to vent them, though this is difficult. The next best thing I'd say is to look up the specifics on a cichlid forum that explains how males and female should appear and go with that. I have been able to accurately sex my Electric yellows, Ps. Flavus, and Taiwan Reefs doing that.

    FOLLOW UP.

Guy I agree somewhat, but I'm sorry bud, and most anyone on here that works with Africans like us is going to tell you, egg spots are a false way to sex cichlids by. I've got females that have them, some even more then my males. Though it does work sometimes, the point I am trying to make is venting is considered to be the most reliable method, then the fins and colors. My bumble bee cichlid has a couple of yellow white spots on the bottom of its fin, and my electric blue does 2
Thanks Fred, but the man just below me there is the one that taught me most everything I know, that's why I asked him to chime in on this one. Report Abuse

No, they are not eggs. They are, however called ';egg spots';.

Jon V is right, the egg spots are not a fail safe way to sex cichlids. I have had males with very few spots and females with quite a few. The only guarantee is to ';vent'; them and only if you know how to recognize the difference between males and females. You should also know how to handle fish before attempting to remove them from the water and look at their vents. Damaging their slime coating will allow bacteria and parasites an entry into their bodies where otherwise they would not be able to gain a foothold and damage your fish.

Both males and females can have the spots, so don't rely totally on the spots to determine sex. With some of the Africans you can notice a slight hump on the forehead of some of the fish. These are typically males. Although some males do not have the hump, none of the females do.

As far as the electric blues, if it has any color at all, it is a male. The females of the electric blues lack color and are primarily gray with some dark vertical stripes. Many of the peacock species females have no color to ID them and are virtually identical with other peacock species females. Therefore it is not advisable to keep more than one peacock group in a tank. They will interbreed and hybridize producing fish that nobody wants because they are not a true strain.
You are speaking of the sex dots on the bottom fins of cichlids. If they have these couple round dots on their bottom fin near where they poop---they are MALE fish. The female has less dots, or none at all! When ciclids breed, the female (with no dots) lays her eggs and she immediately scoops them into her mouth to incubate them there. When she sees the dots, which look like her own eggs, onn the males fin, she attempts to put them in her mouth. The male, at that time ';fertalizes'; the eggs she is holding IN her mouth, where they will hatch, and then swim free from the mothers mouth after several weeks of being in there. She does not eat during this time. And so..The Male cichlid HAS dots on the bottom fin--The female, does not! Hope this helps you. Also, your electric blue cichlid is a very fierce and aggresive fish, he will likely kill the other fish if left in there together, especially as he gets older. good luck. These cichlids actually prefer alcaline hard water right from your sink. You need only remove the chlorine--and use no other water treatments. They can easily live for 10 years or more. As they mature, they prefer to OWN their tank, and are seldom willing to share it with another fish of ANY kind. Living alnoe in their tank--YOU will become the focus of their attention, and they will them watch and follow your every move as you go about the room. They are wonder brilliant, hardy, and very long lived fish. But they prefer to be alone and OWN their tank, for they are very possesive and territorial. The electric blue you have is one of the most beautiful and colorful fish available. But they will eventually fight to the death--any other fish in there. Even the female must be removed after mating for they will fight, and he will destroy the youngs as they are birthed from the mothers mouth. Good luck!
Your fish have a disease called ick.

Get a medicine called quick cure from your local pet store.

when treating fish remove carbon from filter it will turn your water blue so remove any decorations.

Someone in my class has head lice. Can Bumble&Bumble tonic shampoo prevent lice from spreading onto my hair?

The shampoo has tea tree oil, and I heard that the tea tree oil helps to get rid of lice. If the shampoo does get rid of/prevents lice, should I only use that shampoo? I usually use that shampoo then a different one after I rinse the Bumble%26amp;Bumble out.Someone in my class has head lice. Can Bumble%26amp;Bumble tonic shampoo prevent lice from spreading onto my hair?
Tea Tree Oil can help repel lice because it makes humans unrecognisable to them. When they don't think you are human they stay away. I can't comment on the other shampoo because I have never heard of it.

You are right to want to stay away from chemical head lice treatments. No chemical head lice treatment is legally allowed to be labeled as 'safe' as every insecticide is a poison. Every pesticide preparation has the potential to do serious damage depending on the individual.

Read the articles at the following site and try to find a natural remedy containing Neem oil as this renders the lice unable to breed therefore make it impossible for them to build up a resistance.

    Good luck.

    Roughly 1974-77 Camaro. Basically, mid-late 70s.

If you had Googled ';Bumblebee';.....you would have found all the info you could have possibly needed. What kind of camaro was used for bumble bee in transformers?
'74, '75, '76 or '77. Some say it was actually a '76. I call those the 'big bumper' years because they had...big bumpers.

Here's an interesting note. The newer 2010 Bumblebee in the movie was actually a rebodied GTO! GM worked with the production company and let them take molds of there concept Camaro to build a body for a GTO. The reason they did this is simple. When they made the movie, GM hadn't even built one Camaro yet other than the prototypes.%26lt;---source---Hot Rod Magazine. They had a big write up on the car's when the movie came out.
it is 2010 or when /if GM/ Chevy releases it. It has been the pace car in some of the NASCAR races this year. So the release date may be kept this time and not bump to the next year has in the past .

What is the difference between a honey bee, and a bumble bee?

I've recently noted that there are 2 types of bee's I see mostly.

Little black ones (which I assume are worker bee's collecting honey (ie honey bee's) and the big fat bumble bee's.

What is the difference? Does a bumble bee have a hive? Would they use the same hive as a honey bee?

help? What is the difference between a honey bee, and a bumble bee?
The bumble bee is from the 鈥榖ombus鈥?genus and the honey bee is from the 鈥榓pis鈥?genus.

Both are from the Hymenoptera order which includes wasps and ants.

Both live in hives (nest for a bumble bee), both have queens and both have workers. Both also make honey, but the amount of honey that bumble bees make is negligible, so that鈥檚 the main difference. Honey bees make commercially viable amounts of honey and as such are 鈥榝armed鈥?for that reason.

Check the included links for more info. What is the difference between a honey bee, and a bumble bee?
Well to my point of view bees make more honey than nessesary and bumblebees make honey but only enough to feed their kids! Report Abuse

Bumblebees have typical warning colours: black and yellow or black and red. And it is true: all species are capable of stinging. But they are not very willing to do so. We can even take many species in our hand. As long as we don't squeeze them, they won't sting us at all! Only bumblebees laying on their back should never be touched, for this is their typical defense position, indicating they feel threatened and are ready to sting! Even though the stinger of the bumblebees is build the same way as the Honeybee's, their stinger will not remain in your skin. As a result a bumblebee may sting you more than once. The poison it injects is harmless, except for those allergic to wasp poison. Whether the sting is very painful or not depends on the species involved.

Bumblebees are larger and stronger than honeybees.

    hope i helped!
    this will help:
all i know is that a bumble bee is fat and round and the honey bee is skinny hope that helps u
Bumblebees are social insects that are characterized by black and yellow body hairs, often in bands, a commonality among the majority of the species of Bombus. However, some species are known to have orange or even red on their bodies, or may be entirely black.

Queen and worker bumblebees can sting, but the sting is not barbed like that of the honey bee, so they can sting more than once

Honey bees are a subset of bees which represent a far smaller fraction of bee diversity than most people suspect

These bees are the only living members of the tribe Apini, all in the genus Apis, and all of which produce and store liquefied sugar (';honey';) to some degree, and construct colonial nests out of wax secreted by the workers in the colony. Other types of related bees produce and store honey, but only members of the genus Apis are considered true honey bees
one makes honey the other just bumbles along
From reading the wiki page about bees posted above it seems the chief differences are:

    * bumble bee hives are much smaller in number

    * bumble bees can sting more than once

    * bumble bee queens found new hives alone - honey bee queens bring a swarm of workers with them.

  • How do you make nylon butterflies and bumble bees?

I am wanting to find out how to make those butterflies and bumble bee and dragon flies out of pantyhose and wire. I did them in elementary school and want to do these with my kids as a fun spring project, but can't remember how to make them. I barely remember how to do the wings but can't remember how to make the body. Any help or instruction would be greatly appreciated. How do you make nylon butterflies and bumble bees?

    Nylon Butterflies

Try this. It says for fairy wings but why not adapt it to make butterfly wings. I found the site for this by typing in homemade fairy wings. I seen this done on a craft show and they were great.

    Make Your Own Fairy Wings!

With a few basic supplies and your own creative spirit, you can make your own fairy wings to wear to the May Day Festival... or just to flit around town! Follow the instructions below, or, just wing it. Remember: keep your wings on the small side to avoid snagging yourself on thistles (and other fairies), and make them nice %26amp; light so you don't get a wingache. Take it easy on the fairy dust. And be careful if you fly by night!

    Supplies You'll Need:

16-gauge galvanized steel wire (14 gauge for 'high-tension' wings) -- between 6 and 9 feet long, depending on size of fairy wire clippers/pliers

    duct tape

1 pair queen-size pantyhose in any color (sheer and/or iridescent look really cool)

Note: Make sure the hose you are using are very stretchy. Don't use support hose!

    Safety pins

Needle and thread to match pantyhose

Scissors (sharp enough to cut pantyhose)

    Magic markers in fairylike colors

Things to decorate your wings! Glitter, feathers, flowers, fluff, lace, foil, beads, fringe, pipe cleaners, small animals...

    1. Make an armature for your wings. Shape the length of wire into a figure 8, checking as you go to make sure the wings are the size you want and that both sides of the figure 8 are equal in size. Wrap a short (3';) length of duct tape around the center join of the figure 8 to fix it firmly in place. If any wire ends are sticking out, trim them with the wire clippers, and cover the ends of the wire with duct tape so they don't poke you in the back. Test the armature by tugging on it firmly; add more duct tape if needed.

    2. Stretch the pantyhose over the armature and shape your wings. Take the scissors and cut the pantyhose into three pieces: two legs and one ';panty.'; Set the panty aside; it will become your wing halter. Now stretch one pantyhose leg over each side of your figure-8 armature. Pull it taut, but not so tight that it distorts the wings. Use safety pins to hold the pantyhose legs in place at the base of the wings, and shape your wings by bending the wire. Adjust the tension of the pantyhose as needed. When you've got the shape you want, sew the pantyhose in place at the base of the wings, and then trim off the excess hose (you can use it for additional decoration or to extend your halter ties, if needed). 3. Decorate your wings! Using magic markers, draw in the basic lines of your wing design. Color your wings according to your fancy, or if you want, you can look through field guides of moths and butterflies to find a pattern you like. Embellish your wings with glitter, feathers, beads... whatever you desire!

    4. Create a wing ';halter'; or ties. Take the leftover panty, and cut out the crotch area (this will become the neck hole). You now have what looks like a very small tank top

    A. For small children, this halter can simply be pulled over the head; larger folks will need to enlarge the holes and/or cut open the front of the halter

    B. Some fairies prefer to do away with the halter altogether and instead use long ties that they wrap around their shoulders and torso

    C. You can also use a double loop of elastic, one loop per shoulder.

    5. Attach your wings to the halter (or ties). Using needle and thread, securely attach your wings to the halter or ties. Now for the fun part -- try them on! Use a hand mirror in front of a bigger mirror to see if the wings are sitting even on your shoulders (or ask a friend to check for you). If necessary, use needle %26amp; thread to adjust the wing placement, or adjust the ties until the wings are as straight as you want them.

    6. Wear your wings to the May Day Festival! You may, of course, want to wear them at other times: to parties, friends' houses, job interviews, even the supermarket. You can also make fairy antennae to complement your wings--why not!

(Sad-but-true disclaimer: fairy wings do not enable the wearer to actually fly, at least as such action is defined within the realm of Newtonian physics. Flights of fancy are excepted from this disclaimer whether they adhere to Newtonian or quantum physics but we eschew any and all responsibility for any physical consequences of such flights--or physick required to remedy said consequences.)
