Here's two questions in one: What ever happened to Chris Silverwood, and why is David Lloyd nicknamed Bumble?

I thought Silverwood was a good fast bowler who could have achieved much if he was given a few more chances, a bit like Ryan Sidebottom's eventual success for England. Why didn't the selectors persist with him?

And what is the story behind David Lloyd's nickname, Bumble? Here's two questions in one: What ever happened to Chris Silverwood, and why is David Lloyd nicknamed Bumble?
Silverwood was given 3 bites of the cherry (in 1996, 2000 and 2002 i believe) but he never was quite international standard.

His record in First Class cricket is equal to any English fast bowler of the last 20 years, but he is a one-dimensional bowler, who struggled when the going gets tough against quality batsmen.

He has also came at a time, when England have produced quality fast bowler, after quality fast bowler. In the early days, Silverwood was a liabilty and it showed in the early test matches he played, he was all over the shop (not by wides or no-balls, but he just couldnt bowl straight enough to threaten the batsmen) England rightly (in my opinion) dropped him, so he could go back and learn his trade. He filled in a few times in the 00's but he could never impress enough to keep his place in the side.

Ironically now Silverwood is one of the most consistent bowlers on the county circuit, but unfortunately for him, England have a chain of fast bowlers ahead of him.

I believe Silverwood would do a good job for England (even now) but he will be another Englishmen who couldnt quite cut it in the 90's.

There are a few reasons for Bumble's nickname

1. His enthusistic verbosity of the game, which is imparted with a incomprehensible Lancashire buzz

2. His similar looks to Michael Bentine who was in a TV show in the 70's. The caricatures were called the BumbliesHere's two questions in one: What ever happened to Chris Silverwood, and why is David Lloyd nicknamed Bumble?
As far as Chris Silverwood goes, England bowling coach Bob Cottam once said he was faster than Allan Donald but he lacked the consistency. That could be the answer. I don't know much about him so i can't really say.

David Lloyd got his nickname from from Michael Bentine's Potty Time, a kid's programme in the '70s with caricatures called the Bumblies. In the Lancashire dressing-room, they thaught he looked like them so the name Bumble stuck.
Silverwood: lacked consistencey
