There is a humming bird moth. It flys like a humming bird. It has stripes across the back. When it eats from a flower it unrolls the tongue like a moth. They are pretty large for an insect. Yes, it was probably a ';Hummingbird Moth'; or perhaps a Tomato hornworm moth. See pictures here:
g'day chat, i believe the bee to which you are referring is not a bee at all but is called the ';humming bird moth'; which is quite common in higher altitudes but as you get down out of the mountains into the flat country they are not as common or maybe they don't exist there at all. instead, that is where you find the true bumble bee, due to the warmer climate.
