    Short answer, maybe.





    They are quite vicious for the most part. My first experience with them was bad. (Some of my catfish still haven't grown their barbels back). Those three got moved into their own tank.





    I have two others that have been in my community tank for a few months now, and I haven't had any issues (yet). It's pretty heavily planted though with plenty of snails (that's why they were put in there). (It has neons, catfish, kulli loaches, a pleco, platties, glass fish and a few others in it)





    I would say if you have enough decorations to keep them distracted and if they are fed enough, give them a try. Just make sure to keep an eye on them and your other fish to make sure they are getting along.





    (Just a note, the dwarf puffer is a freshwater fish and don't do well with salt. Some of the fish you listed, gobies especially, are brackish fish. Keep that in mind.)Can dwarf puffers be put with Guppies, Balloon Mollies, Platies, Swordtails and Bumble Bee Gobies?

    dwarf puffers shouldn't even go with other dwarf puffers. Ideal conditions for dp's is one alone in a 5-10 gallon tank. also, they need special conditions, like nothing with any type of sharp edges, and a tank with a hood that stays closed (silly little jumpers....) you also can't net them, they have to be 'scooped' in a cup or bowl or something with a lid over it so they don't jump out. they have skin, instead of scales, and they are NOT BRACKISH. they are strictly freshwater.





    i've heard of a few people that had dp's in a community tank and they went well for a long time. they are very very VERY territorial, and need their space. so, unless you have a 55 or 60 gallon tank with a few other fish in it, i wouldn't try it. they will nip anything that looks like a tail, and anything that moves. they have very sharp teeth, and they are a puffer. they will PUFF.. . make sure they don't puff full of air, or they will kill themselfs.

    Absolutely no chance in hell. The bagpipes aren't a chromatic instrument. As far as I know they mostly play in mixolydian mode (so major scale with a flat 7th) plus they have a tiny range. Because of all the chromatic runs in flight of the bumble bee the instrument isn't physically able to play it.





    Also hypothetically even if it were possible, the bagpipes are limited to only play in a few keys so the accompaniment would have to be transposed as well.

    It's not really easy to do on the bagpipes. I've heard someone try Bohemian Rhapsody on the pipes and they were taken to hospital...you know when it gets quicker, thats when he collapsed.

    hey! im goin as a bee this year as well..What i did was i got a bee kit from claires,its got the wings the headband and the stinger! It was 7 dollars. Then i had black capris,and i got yellow tights and fishnet tights and wore those under the capris.The shirt, i have a yellow and white see thru sweater that i just put a black tank on underneath...hope that helped a little..Also alot of summer clothes are on sale now,or just go to walmart get a yellow hanes tshirt,some black electrical tape and make stripes on the yellow shirt!

    I prefer Albacore Tuna but if you are trying Bumble Bee, I would suggest the tuna salad. It tastes kind of like chicken with a teensy fishy taste. Don't be discouraged by the smell!! It is deelish!!

    It works well. I use it to put my hair up, e.g. in a french twist. It gives it more texture and body, and helps it to hold the style. It washes out easily and doesn't dust off or anything if you're worried about that.Do Bumble and Bumble hair products work?
    The hair salon I go to sells B%26amp;B and I LOVE all their products I've tried so far. I have not tried the hair powder, but it is probably great, like the rest of the stuff :)

    g'day chat, i believe the bee to which you are referring is not a bee at all but is called the ';humming bird moth'; which is quite common in higher altitudes but as you get down out of the mountains into the flat country they are not as common or maybe they don't exist there at all. instead, that is where you find the true bumble bee, due to the warmer climate.

    6 tablespoons (about) ice water


    Topping


    6 tablespoons (packed) golden brown sugar


    6 tablespoons whole almonds


    6 tablespoons (3/4 stick) chilled unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch cubes


    4 1/2 tablespoons old-fashioned oats


    4 1/2 tablespoons all purpose flour





    Filling


    1 cup sugar


    1/4 cup quick-cooking tapioca


    2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice


    5 cups assorted fresh berries (such as raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries; about 8 ounces of each)





    PreparationFor crust:


    Blend flour, sugar, and salt in processor. Add butter and shortening; using on/off turns, cut in until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add 5 tablespoons ice water and process until moist clumps form, adding more water by teaspoonfuls if mixture is dry. Gather dough into ball; flatten into disk. Wrap in plastic and chill at least 1 hour.


    For topping:


    Combine all ingredients in processor. Process until moist clumps form. (Dough and topping can be made 1 day ahead. Cover topping and chill; keep dough chilled. Soften dough slightly at room temperature before rolling out.)





    For filling:


    Mix sugar, tapioca, and lemon juice in large bowl. Add berries and toss gently to combine. Let stand until tapioca softens slightly, stirring occasionally, about 45 minutes. Preheat oven to 400掳F. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface to 15-inch round. Transfer to 9-inch-diameter glass pie dish. Trim dough overhang to 1 inch. Fold overhang under and crimp decoratively, forming high-standing rim. Freeze crust 20 minutes.





    Spoon filling into crust. Crumble topping evenly over filling. Bake pie until crust and topping are golden brown and filling is bubbling, covering loosely with sheet of foil if topping browns too quickly, about 55 minutes. Transfer pie to rack and cool at least 3 hours. (Can be made 8 hours ahead. Let stand at room temperature.) Cut pie into wedges and serve.

    2 (9 inch) unbaked pie crusts


    1 1/3 cups white sugar


    1/3 cup all-purpose flour

    DIRECTIONS:


    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

    I think you mean bumbleberry pie. I make this a lot. You can use a lot of combinations but my favourite is 2 cups rhubarb, 1 cup blueberries, 1 cup strawberries, 1 cup apples. Toss with 1 cup sugar and 3 tbsp. flour. Bake at 475 for 10min. and then at 374 for 45 min..

    I have all kinds of insects flying around my garden, and making use of them is easy.





    Get a butterfly net to catch as many Bumble bees as you can, try to find their hive as you'll want 3 cups worth.


    Before mixing the ingredients knock them around and stun them in the net so they wont fly away or sting ya.





    2 (9-inch) frozen pie shells, thawed to room temperature - or make your own pastry


    3 cups fresh bumble bees - Stingers left on OK


    1/2 cup sugar


    2-1/2 tablespoons cornstarch


    1 tablespoon butter


    1/2 teaspoon grated lemon peel


    1 egg yolk





    In a medium-sized saucepan, combine 1 cup of the bumble bees, the sugar, cornstarch and 2 tablespoons water.


    Bring to a boil; cook and stir until mixture thickens and is clear.


    Stir in butter; cool for 5 minutes.





    Stir in the remaining 2 cups bumble bees; cool.


    Preheat oven to 400*. Pour cooled filling into one pie shell.


    Lay the remaining pie shell on a waxed paper; cut seven 3/4-inch wide strips; arrange in a criss-cross pattern on top of bumble bees,

    Your local council will have a pest control section. Don't know what they would charge, though.
    If they are bumble bees they are a protected species now so you cant kill them - your best bet is to get someone from a bee farm to come and collect them to use in their honey hives!
    You will have to call a pest exterminator. They will have to drill a small hole, or find the hole they are getting in by. Then they will have to smoke them out. How long have they been inside your wall. You know they have a hive there and there is probably honey dripping inside your walls. So even if they are able to kill all the bees. Then you will have to contend with ants trying to get at the honey. Talk to the exterminator about that. Good luck. It happend to me too a while back, and he got rid of them fast, so no honey had built up.

    First off, a bumble bee cannot fly fast enough in a straight line direction to kill itself, whether it hits your head or a brick wall, or whatever. This is why you do not find lots of dead bumble bees


    lined up next to walls. If a bumble bee does happen to run into your head, its probably just very depressed and trying to commit suicide.


    But it won't succeed for the second reason:

    Hover flies apparently eat other insects my mother told me when I was younger and I was told they are sensing their surroundings when they hover, but that might be rubbish my parents told me to shut me up. :)
    Herein lies the reason for scientific names (latin nomenclature). Bumble bees, honey bees are common names. It doens't mean that other bees don't make honey just because YOU don't refer to them at honey bees.





    Furthermore, nature's purpose for animal pollenators is to transfer pollen from the stamen (male flower part) to the pistol (female flower part) so fertilization can occur (hence the expression the birds and the bees-they help to fertlize plants), not to collect pollen to make honey.





    In addition, pollen does not make honey. Nectar is a food source for bees (and other pollenators). The plant provides the nectar as food so the pollenators have a reason to come to the flower in the first place, pollenating as they feed. Nectar is carried back to the hive. Honey is a byproduct of the bees' lifestyle. I will stop here, or you won't want to eat honey anymore.

    Hoverflies are true flies and they pollinate flowers.

    First of all, one of the main and difficult culprit organisms involved is Staph aureus. It is an anaerobic bacteria which thrives in the absence of oxygen, such as in an internal wound such as the foot. Its colony also involves usually a hard plug of tissue, which must usually be removed in order for eradication to occur, antibiotics won't just magically cure it unless you get the mass of infection out. In bumblefoot you usually see a black appearing scabby surface, underneath that is a sort of dense, hard waxy plug, sometimes there is a pussy abcess behind that but sometimes not. Other bacteria can be involved, pseudomanas spp, and others, but Staph is usually the main and difficult to cure part of the problem. Staph is sort of always out there and on many of our skin, in soils, but then a wound gives it a place to grow, often in our chooks this is on the base of their feet.





    You often read to lance, to me this is not effective, more painful for the bird, and more risky because you put infection possibly into the bloodstream, and make a more complicated wound. What I came across is a method to actually pull out the plug of Staph.





    You need a very thick pad of sterile cotton gauze, absolutely drenched with Bactine, which is benzalkonium chloride. You wash the chook's foot with soap and water on a facecloth and try to rub off the black superficial surface scab. Then you put that soaked gauze on the bottom of the foot where the ';bumble'; is, and wrap it up very well with vetrap. So the bactine will really soak into the nearby tissues around the epicenter of the bumble. Bactine is sort of irritating, very slightly ';caustic';, so just be warned about that, I really try to center it on the infected area, but it does need to be soaking. If the chicken had a foot that was all cut up I'd think twice, but generally the rest of the foot seems to tolerate the treatment. Then you leave it for the right amount of time - I have found this to be somewhere just over an hour, when I've left it longer I sort of missed the window and it didn't work and I had to re-soak.





    After this approximate generous hour, you take a sterile scalpel blade, and you gently work away the infected mass away at the edges. Kind of like ';picking'; a scab but carefully in away at all edges. You go all the way around the ';bumble';, and pull it toward the center away from the edges as much as you can, being careful to get all of it from the very edge of where the chicken's good tissue begins, and if the bumble is deep, try to peel away from the edges fairly deeply too. When you have the whole thing sort of lifted away from the edge and toward the center, you grab the central mass as deeply as you can with sterile tweezers, and you slowly but firmly pull the whole thing out. In one case, it was sort of like pulling the whole foot pad inside out, it pulled out very deeply, and cleanly. If there is any pus, when you remove the ';plug'; of staph, you should make it possible for the pus to come out.





    Now you clean out the hole and area with your preferred strong antiseptic, (I also wash and sterilize down the whole foot with betadine) get some antibiotic stuff in there, and re-bandage. I like to keep the treated chook in a nice area on clean soft bedding, usually scrap towels which can become a full time job to keep clean. You can vetrap and bandage up the foot, but you will need to change this bandage often, as you can cause other skin abrasions between the toes etc if the vetrap is left on too long. You will need to keep other bacteria out of there until the wound is healed.





    Now as for antibiotics, this is my two cents. For antibiotic cream for the surface of the wound, IMO it is worth it to get some Mupiricin which is Bactroban from a vet, as that is extremely effective on Staph for the local antibiotic cream. Chlorhexidine as the ';cleaner'; disinfectant you use is also one of top effectiveness on staph, alhthough one vet I saw assured me the Betadine is also fine. IMO chickens will also need a systemic (ie oral or injectible) antibiotic to cure this usually, and of sufficient duration of treatment. If your chicken is very ill from the Staph, maybe Pen G is a good first place, it seems to knock it down quickly, and with minimum stress for the chicken to process the antibiotic, and minimum effect on the GI of the chicken. The first chicken I found bumblefoot in was very ill, refusing egg yolk (imagine that!), and the PenG shot helped her dramatically within 24 hours. The other good first place IMO is erythromycin, in strong enough dosage to be effective, but erythromycin especially oral erythromycin is hard on the GI. The thing about the PenG according to one vet I saw is that it may or not completely eradicate the staph, as after a week or 10 days it MIGHT show some resistance. Now in bumblefoot in my understanding, one mistake is to treat it too short. I don't think there's any hope of a 3-5 day course of anything completely eradicating a complic
    You can buy antiseptic wipes from the chemist and wipe it with one a few times everyday, also soaking in warm water and salt can help.


    It really should go to a vet though it can be painful.

With several thousand people playing them at once they blend together into that irritating drone we hear on television.     It's a bug, you have it mostly in tropical areas but are soetimes found in inland areas. It makes a buzzing sound that is annoying.
    I didn't even notice it until I read this question. I have no clue what it is.

    You might be seeing a Carpenter Bee. They look a lot like bumble bees, but are not as pleasant. They can be aggressive, they sting (personal experience) and they do make holes in wood, especially wood siding and fascia boards where they create nesting galleries and raise their young.





    If you want to know if it's a Carpenter Bee - look on it's back for a black shiny spot (like my bald spot). Bumble Bees don't have it, but the Carpenter Bees do. Also, look for their nesting holes in wood siding.





    We all love bees, but aggressive Carpenter Bees can be a real pain.





    There are a number of ';Killer'; products out there. Just use according to the label directions and you should be fine.

    How do I treat bumble foot?

    I need to know how to treat bumble foot b/c my guinea pig, Bear, has it. His one back foot is really swollen and the other one is just starting. Should I start cleaning his feet on a daily basis? Help?How do I treat bumble foot?
    Bumble foot (Ulcerative pododermatitis) is tough to treat. It is not likely your bedding. We have had pigs on pine shavings for over 40 years and have never had a case. The suspect cause is a chronic bacterial infection, typically with Staphylococcus aureus, though there may be other factors as well.





    Hygiene is a must. Keeping the cage clean and cleaning the feet will help. Some breeders report success with daily chlorohexadine soaks. Topical antibiotic might help but I think that you need to go to the vet for either injectable or oral antibiotics. Baytril is the most commonly used.How do I treat bumble foot?
    You need to get him to a vet. Since it's in both feet and it's almost impossible to tell how much the infection has spread he will need oral antibiotics and probably a booster shot of antibiotics. Antiseptic rinses such as peroxide or witch hazel, topical antibiotic creams, and bandaging probably won't hurt either. Bumblefoot usually only happens if kept on a wire floor cage, so if that's the case please buy a cage with a solid bottom.
    First of all, eliminate the REASON he got bumblefoot.





    This can be caused by an uneven flooring and the rodent has not had a normal, flat surface to rest their feet on.





    Make sure that your cage has plenty of room for him/her to run around and soft, clean bedding.





    What are you using for bedding anyway? you should be using carefresh, or a paper-based bedding. Flannel works well too, and you just throw it in the wash every couple days with the rest of your laundry.





    use some sort of soft material they can snuggle up with while sleeping.





    MAKE SURE YOUR CAGE IS ALWAYS clean as well. This can make the rodent develop bumblefoot if the cage is filled with feces and urine.





    Now, what you should do to treat:





    Give the guinea new bedding every couple days until better.


    You might want to take it to the vet if it's a really bad case. You should try to avoid touching their feet as they will probably not like you touching it. It's very painful. If you can, get 10/90 salt/water mix so that you can lightly clean the wound. This will burn a little bit, but it will also clean infection and there's no harm of them licking their feet (like if you used neosporin or anything else).





    Good luck.

    there is no way to completely treat it. you can make it temporarily go away but it may come back. some antibiotocs from your vet can be useful. you guinea friend is hardly likely to die.
    Pine bedding is bad for guinea pigs. It causes respiratory problems. It is also pretty rough and too hard.


    Use carefresh, alfalfa or some blankets.

    I'd go for the salt water tbh.
    the bumble and bumble surf spray does work a little, but you could also use a curl enhancing spay as well. if your hair has some curl to it both of those will help if it is straight you will just get a slight wave. The surf spray is mainly meant to give you the ';just left the beach'; look like piecey and separated.

    Yes, one can a month is fine. Is also really depends on your age. Mercury is not as harmful to an adult as it is to young children. I think even one can a week is safe, but once a month is fine.

    The Life Cycle of the Bumble Bee.


    Every Autumn as the first frosts begin the mated young queens seek out a place to hibernate in safety. If you come across a live but sleepy bee in a pile of leaves in Winter don't damage it. Its not dying, just in a deep cold sleep like a hedgehog. Put it back where you found it and cover it gently against the cold.





    In the first warm days of Spring you may see the large queens flying busily about the early bulbs and flowers. These large slow bees are searching for nectar and pollen to turn into honey and food for their newly hatching brood. So the organic gardener plants lots of pollen producing flowers and leaves an unmown patch of early dandelions in the wild garden or hedgerow to feed the young queens.





    The queen will locate a suitable place to build her nest. There are over 200 types of bumble bee and they look for a variety of sites. Most common are the leaf litter in a hedge bottom, an old mouse hole, a cool dark place under a large stone or under the wooden floor of a garden shed or other building. Because the bumble bee does not live in a large colony the nest is usually little bigger than half a grapefruit even in the busiest days of high Summer.





    The queen begins a new nest with a ball of pollen and wax into which she lays just a few (approx 6 ) eggs at a time. When the eggs hatch they try to eat their way through the pollen reserve but the queen continually adds to the pollen and wax sealing them in. Eventually the grubs pupate and the queen spins a bright yellow cocoon of the finest silk from which the grubs emerge a few days later as fully grown worker bees.





    As soon as they dry their wings the worker bees begin work to support the colony and their queen. She continues to lay eggs but as it takes more and more of her time the pollen and nectar collection is delegated to the workers, the queen spending her whole time in the nest.





    This co-operation continues throughout the high days of late Spring and Summer until the nest has reached the right size for its species. At that point the queen lays eggs destined to become next years queen bees as well as drones or male bees. The drones once hatched leave the nest and live independent lives, their only purpose being to mate with the young queens to ensure the survival of the species. Unlike honey bees the young bumble queens will continue to live and work in the mother colony for the remainder of the Summer and Autumn.

    I currently use the Bumble and Bumble Gentle Shampoo and Super Rich Conditioner for my naturally thick wavy hair, and I use the styling creme to blow dry my hair straight. What would you recommend when I want to do my hair natural and wavy, the same styling creme or the curl conscious creme? I used to use Curls Rock and my hair looked wet and greasy. What about Aveda's Curl line? Is that any good? I want something pretty, natural, with volume too, and not crunchy. Any suggestions? It doesn't need to be Bumble and Bumble.Which Bumble and Bumble Hair Product holds curl better the styling creme or the curl conscious creme?
    Trust me when i say neither.....the curl concious for medium to thick hair has no hold far less for the one for thin to medium......the styling creme willl give you no curl formation......plus they both have silicones which tends to build up on hair and make it hard and dry especially as you already use the super rich condi........I would recommend that you use either...

    This is a good example of the power, or indeed danger, of the shared word, and modern media. Im trying this, at next opportunity, at the expence of (bee's) life.

    the frezzer doesnt kill it it just slowes its body down so when it is taken out its body speeds up.

    bees hibernate in winter, very simimalr to the ways certain frogs do. By freezing themselves and living (barely) in a comatose state. When their body thaws they spring back to life as if nothing happened, bees certain frogs and some other animals can produce a sort of antifreeze in their blood and organs that allows it to survive in winter.
    They keep themselves warm enough by flapping their wings just enough. Leave the little bugger in there for a fortnight and see if he still lives

    There is a possible mechanism by which GM will affect bees. If GM crops are infertile and produce flowers but do not pollen, they may find problems feeding in the area. This may also apply to infertile garden cultivars. However, I do not know of any such commercial crops. I do know that pesticides will either kill or injure the insects and the survivors will be more susceptible to viruses and mites as a result.





    Over 30% of our crops rely on bees for pollination, so there demise would be very serious, in my view. Are gm crops causing a decline in bumble bee numbers?
    I think its to do with the recent rather wet weather bouts we are having that are keeping them in the hives, and then as someone else has said there is also a nasty virus that is going around which is being particularly effective because they are not leaving the hives as much.


    But hey, who knows the GM crops may not be helping.
    When considering the potential impacts of GM plants on bees, it is important to remember that bees eat only pollen, nectar, resins (for propolis) and honeydew (excreted by sap-sucking insects); they do not eat leaves, stems or roots.     We measured the effects of three classes of proteins on bees:








    Bt toxins (designed mostly to control caterpillars), and found no effects








    Protease inhibitors (for caterpillar and beetle control), and found only slight effects at very high concentrations








    A biotin-binding protein (for general insect control), and found no effects.


    Overseas colleagues working with GM plants and bees have found that most GM plants produce only minute quantities of novel proteins in pollen and none in nectar. They have found no negative effects on bees from plants modified to be insect- or herbicide- or disease-resistant.





    Our team has carried out research on bee health since 1995. We have worked closely with colleagues overseas in a co-ordinated research effort.

    I don't think we can blame GM crops this time. Honey bees are the main pollinators of food crops, as they stick to one crop at a time, while bumble bees go randomly. I wondered if it could be the same thoracic mite that was killing off the honey bee, and I found this interesting article (link below). It is a parasite that robs bees of the ability to distinguish which flowers have nectar and which don't. The bee starves to death slowly by visiting empty flowers. I'm glad you asked this question and helped me learn something. I'll be a lot more tolerant of them buzzing me while I'm tending their flowers!

    Kit, I just found an article by a guy in Germany who says that toxins from bt corn DO make the bees more suseptible to the parasite. Just google ';gm crops + bees'; to see several opinions.
    A little bit, but most is due to systemic pesticides that flow through the sap of the plant. When the bees feed on the nectar of the flowers they get poisoned.





    Imidacloprid is a common bee killing pesticide that has been pushed onto farmers to kill pest insects.
    I don't think that GM is having an affect on bees, there's not enough of it. What is causing a problem is Verroa, a mite and parasite.

    I thought Silverwood was a good fast bowler who could have achieved much if he was given a few more chances, a bit like Ryan Sidebottom's eventual success for England. Why didn't the selectors persist with him?





    And what is the story behind David Lloyd's nickname, Bumble?Here's two questions in one: What ever happened to Chris Silverwood, and why is David Lloyd nicknamed Bumble?
    Silverwood was given 3 bites of the cherry (in 1996, 2000 and 2002 i believe) but he never was quite international standard.





    His record in First Class cricket is equal to any English fast bowler of the last 20 years, but he is a one-dimensional bowler, who struggled when the going gets tough against quality batsmen.





    He has also came at a time, when England have produced quality fast bowler, after quality fast bowler. In the early days, Silverwood was a liabilty and it showed in the early test matches he played, he was all over the shop (not by wides or no-balls, but he just couldnt bowl straight enough to threaten the batsmen) England rightly (in my opinion) dropped him, so he could go back and learn his trade. He filled in a few times in the 00's but he could never impress enough to keep his place in the side.





    Ironically now Silverwood is one of the most consistent bowlers on the county circuit, but unfortunately for him, England have a chain of fast bowlers ahead of him.





    I believe Silverwood would do a good job for England (even now) but he will be another Englishmen who couldnt quite cut it in the 90's.





    There are a few reasons for Bumble's nickname

    As far as Chris Silverwood goes, England bowling coach Bob Cottam once said he was faster than Allan Donald but he lacked the consistency. That could be the answer. I don't know much about him so i can't really say.
